Uganda Launches Monthly National Cleaning Day Campaign
Kampala | Saturday, 25 July 2026
The Government of Uganda has officially launched the National Cleaning Day Campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting sanitation, environmental conservation and healthier communities.
The campaign was flagged off on Saturday, 25 July 2026, in Kisenyi, Kampala, by Vice President Rt. Hon. Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, who urged Ugandans to embrace cleanliness as a shared responsibility.
Under the initiative, the last Saturday of every month has been designated as National Cleaning Day. Communities across the country are expected to participate in organised clean-up exercises from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The monthly exercise encourages households, businesses, institutions, local leaders and community organisations to clean public spaces, clear drainage channels, manage waste responsibly and improve sanitation within their neighbourhoods.
Government leaders say the campaign is intended to foster a lasting culture of cleanliness, reduce sanitation-related diseases and create a cleaner, healthier and safer environment for all Ugandans.
